We started the year strong, receiving the Lumiere Technology Award in January, alongside companies like Disney and Microsoft. Weeks later, we traveled to Park City, Utah to debut our HaptX Glove prototype at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. Oculus has also partnered with Virtuclear to offer prescription lenses for the Quest 2 for $80. All the 3 major VR runtimes (Oculus, SteamVR, Microsoft) are now compatible with OpenXR , and this means that on the runtime layer on PC, now OpenXR has been fully integrated. MWC Shanghai 2021 showcased some XR technologies.

In a reverse engineering exercise, two students at Utah State University have hacked positional tracking onto a Gear VR headset using SteamVR Tracking technology. Since Valve opened SteamVR technology to third parties for free , it has become easier to create tracked peripherals and other hardware.
