A new FCC listing appears for an HTC Vive headset. And in fact, a new request to FCC for a new device has arrived from HTC. FCC certifications are requested before releasing an electronic device in the US (to certify that it is safe to be used), so this is a clear sign that HTC is going to release a new headset soon.

The most reactive major XR company has been HTC that has decided that its annual VEC event, that was usually held in Shenzhen, China, will be held in the ENGAGE virtual platform. HTC has answered to Road To VR about the critics regarding the too many headsets of its on the market. …and fostering the creation of Virtual ones.

I’m sure that after April, 20th, the Meta Quest ecosystem will appear even richer than it is now , creating a wider gap with other companies that may think about competing with the Quest, that is Pico, HTC, and even Apple. Vive Focus 3 now supports Hands Tracking even in PCVR mode (Thanks Paolo Leoncini for the tip). Other news.

This began with devices from Lenovo, HTC VIVE, Pico Interactive, and Meta Platforms, so the growth we’ve seen for consumer use cases has been very strong since then. Other devices from Magic Leap and Microsoft’s HoloLens headsets offer deeper levels of immersion.

And while this is anyway a good result for a startup (developing an AR headsets means spending billions in R&D), targeting the consumer market has been a suicide move , that let Microsoft get full control of the profitable enterprise market. The VR route is instead being pursued by HTC (with its VEC event happening soon) and IEEE.
