Peggy Johnson, Microsoft’s Executive VP of Business Development, is slated to take the reins as the new CEO of Magic Leap, effective August 1st. Magic Leap recently pivoted to the enterprise space after seeing lackluster success with its $2,300 AR headset, Magic Leap 1 (previously known as Magic Leap One Developer Edition).

In fact, with Saudi Arabia still pouring $500 million into companies like Magic Leap as Meta continues to invest in optical AR glasses, the question of whether VR-style headsets with passthrough on them are going to be used outdoors in any significant way is not a forgone conclusion.

But maybe for the FTC the acquisition of a fitness game is more interesting than the monopoly of the next technological platform…. I saw no huge spike in downloads of my fitness game on App Lab. Saudi Arabia fund gets control of Magic Leap. Go buy some games! Thanks Ivan Aguilar for the tip).

Apple's passthrough magic might help explain why the industry is making such big shifts before this $3,500 spatial computer even ships. Saudi Arabia-owned Magic Leap took $500+ million more from the "sovereign" investment arm of the state to continue developing its technologies for transparent optical AR.
