CES 2018 has come and gone, and with it, a pace has been set for what we can expect to see in VR in the next six months or so. OpenSim land area fell by the equivalent of 8,667 standard regions, and active users dropped by 3,473 due to combination of school holidays and fewer grids reporting stats than in the last couple of months. In addition to InWorldz , Great Canadian Grid , and The Adult Grid , other grids that did not have complete working stats pages this month included My First Life , Astralia , Atek Grid , 2Worlds2Go , Alife Virtual , AllCity , Kroatan Grid , Alterworld Grid and OpenSim Life.

So you got a little out of control last night playing Robo Recall (2017) , and you smashed one of your Touch controllers to smithereens. It used to be that you’d have to buy a brand new pair of controllers at full price to get back into the game, but now Oculus is selling single controllers so you can replace whichever one you smashed last. Available through Oculus’ accessories page , replacement Touch controllers (left or right) are selling for $70 / €90 a piece.

Kite & Lightning, the studio behind some of VR’s earliest experiences, is one of 13 developers receiving a portion of over $200,000 in ‘Unreal Dev Grants’, a program set up by Epic Games to showcase and provide financial support to projects using Unreal Engine 4. Bebylon Battle Royale is the team’s first major VR game, described as a “vehicular melee party brawler,” and is due to release in 2018 on HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.

Survios, the studio behind Raw Data (2017) , today announced closed beta testing for Sprint Vector , its multiplayer competitive foot racing game. The closed beta will start January 19th and go through January 28th. The beta, which will include up to 8-players in competitive foot racing matches, will be available through both Oculus Home and SteamVR.
