Considering that Facebook is very smart also in leaking misleading info (as it has happened with the “Monterey” headset ), this can also be a move from Menlo Park to create hype for the upcoming Oculus Connect 6 and the AR glasses that will be teased there. They should guarantee better tracking both for the headset and the controllers; The controllers are smaller and seem a mix between the Oculus Touch and the WMR 1 controllers. I don’t see this device stealing the scene from Oculus, since Oculus is cheaper, but I’m quite sure this new headset will be able to grab a good market share.

Facebook Connect is coming September, 16th Oculus de facto rebranded as Facebook Reality Labs. Oculus is de facto no more. This doesn’t look like Oculus Quest” and in the text puts a link to an Imgur album with 4 photos featuring various half-assembled VR headsets. We don’t know if it is just a reference design for external partners (like HTC) or it is an actual headset that Valve is producing. So, we are at premium 1st gen levels.
