I think the battle with Apple has just begun. Because most VR developers know well Unity or Unreal, and WebVR languages like A-frame are based on Javascript, that is very different from the usual programming flow of the game engines. Fast Forward two years and Mozilla has just announced that it has upgraded that plugin.

It was our hope for Google entering the AR race together with Meta and Apple. It can be used also together with VRChat, but if you want to use it together with your Quest, you need to go through your phone (the small trackers send the data to your phone, which sends the data to VRChat). Well, it seems that our hope has died.

Outside VR, the big news to keep an eye on is the dispute between Epic Games and Apple (and Google), which could lead to a complete change in how app stores are managed, even in VR. Meta is studying new login options for Quest devices, arriving next year. The data collection from XR headsets to offer targeted ads has to continue somehow. Pico and HTC still offer better services, and better guarantees on data management than a consumer device, so it has to be seen what companies will value the most.
