Immersive education presents a safer, more effective alternative to conventional learning. While investing in VR education and training applications may seem unnecessary, time-consuming, or just a “nice to have”, immersive technologies can play a large role in educating students and employees efficiently and effectively.

Many people associate virtual reality with video gaming. Certainly, we’ve seen numerous advances in immersive gaming over the years. Led by researchers from the University of Maryland School of Music, where Muresanu also teaches, the project centers on Four Strings Around the World. However, that’s not all there is to VR.

And since we know VR has a bigger impact that standard 2D video, you can hopefully assign an appropriate value to each VR user and action taken. You can do information recall tests, like the ones performed at University of Maryland, that showed an 8.8% lift in recall when using a VR headset vs. traditional video.

The ability to simulate different scenarios, from an immersive first-person perspective, is very compelling. With commercially available powerful VR headsets like Oculus Go at only $200/headset, whole departments can be equipped for immersive learning. So it’s easier to film it once in immersive 360-degree 3D.

Training New & Existing Employees We’ve written extensively about VR for Training , and the significant benefits of using VR for this particular use case (immersion, rentention, etc). Traditional video and paper-based training simply isn’t good enough for a lot of these real-life jobs.
