Unity now supports Vulkan for Oculus Quest. Unity has finally implemented Vulkan support for the Oculus Quest, in Unity 2019.3. Long story short, this means that using Vulkan instead of OpenGL, you may even have a +20% performances boost on your Unity apps for Quest. Samsung Odyssey+ is now at $230.

The Unity renderer implementation of foveated rendering, on the other hand is much rougher, and in multiple Unity apps I saw very obvious and harsh artifacts, particularly on text. Given this only happens in Unity Full Space apps, I suspect this can be solved in future software. The main form is hand and arm occlusion.

This trend will continue in 2021 : the new LiDAR sensor, which is rumored to be installed in all future iPhones, will for sure be copied also by Android phones (Samsung?) All will feature tracking cameras for 6dof, hand tracking, speakers, microphone, and an additional camera to shoot photos and videos.

The new update for Oculus Quest brings with it some interesting features, like the tracking of the Apple Magic Keyboard, some updates to the UI, and a new menu for hand tracking. HTC discounts its headsets. HTC has started a good discount on its headsets that will last until the end of the month.
