There’s a rumor going around that Nintendo is making a VR headset in partnership with Google. Nintendo basically has a singular MO, and it does it well: create broadly accessible hardware to serve as a vehicle for its exclusive swath of family friendly games.

Actually, I have been pretty disappointed because there has been no hardware launch , but my lack of sleep has been rewarded by the announcement of a new software platform by HTC and also by HTC publicly showcasing some prototypes I made in the last weeks. It is like Google here. In Taipei they’re investing a lot in software now.

The console can also be inserted in a special case (a much improved version of Google Daydream View) to become a VR headset. A good and bad pieces of news about Quest Pro hardware. It is not enabled to be used that way, but it is interesting that hardware-wise, it could work as a big joystick. Other news. It’s very cool.

And the price of the wireless add-on is even more suspicious: speaking with a hardware manufacturer, they told me that ONLY THE ANTENNAS of a Wi-Gig connection for VR streaming (like the one of the Vive Pro) costs around $100… so how can the whole wireless streaming device cost just $50?? Simple WebXR” aims at bringing WebXR to Unity.

It is also the time when all magazines create a list of “best of” the year and give awards to the best content and hardware … about which there is always someone that doesn’t agree. I am a bit sad no one gave an award to The Unity Cube , though… I would have loved to get a “Worst Application Award 2021” from Road To VR….
