Various reports indicated it as the internal codename in Google for a project meant to build augmented reality glasses. It was our hope for Google entering the AR race together with Meta and Apple.

This reminds me of a similar error HTC made in the past of mixing signals of a pro device and consumer content It has RGB passthrough cameras with three times the resolution of Quest 2 cameras. Some first feedback starts arising from the early adopters, and Cix Liv has published on X that the device shows serious issues, like the fact that its virtual keyboard is hard to use (this does not surprise me… virtual keyboards without any haptics are hard to make). This does not mean that Google is not still committed to AR, though.

This is the same confusion that created issues for HTC in the past with the Vive Pro, for instance. HaptX announces the new generation of its haptic gloves. Dubbed HaptX G1, they are much smaller and cheaper than the previous version, and so present an important evolution for all the haptics space.

More info Google may still be working at Project Iris Some months ago a rumor claimed that Google had stopped working on Project Iris, its project devoted to the creation of augmented reality glasses.
