Just last week we learned about Facebook’s plan for a $200 headset that occupies the low end of the market while Google continues work on a six degrees of freedom standalone headset.

This is a period with many tech announcements: we had Meta telling about its Horizon OS, yesterday OpenAI unveiled the new GPT-4o, and today Google will hopefully unveil its Android XR operating system. Robust to handling objects: Hyperion offers superior hand tracking while holding an object in your hand, making it perfect for mixed reality.

Today it’s a great day for virtual reality: at WCVRI conference, HTC has just announced a kit to provide 6 DOF controllers for Vive Focus and has showcased a hands-tracking technology for the Vive Pro ! Hands tracking for Vive Pro. In short: the Vive Focus will finally have two 6 DOF controllers.

Earlier this year HTC became an official partner with Google in producing a Daydream-based standalone VR headset under the Vive brand. It looks like it will access HTC’s storefront, called Viveport, to get to virtual worlds rather than Google Play. Where Are My Hands?

Project Alloy stands alone among the current lineup of technologies available because it isn’t tethered to a desktop computer like HTC Vive or Oculus Rift, nor does it use a smartphone like Google Cardboard, Gear VR or Google Daydream. The headset has an inside out tracking system enabled by Intel’s amazing RealSense technology.
