VR and AR headsets are heading to market from Microsoft, Google, Facebook and others that have a wide range of capabilities. Just last week we learned about Facebook’s plan for a $200 headset that occupies the low end of the market while Google continues work on a six degrees of freedom standalone headset.

On the contrary, Microsoft has worked a lot on the platform, to make it more appealing to enterprise customers. It has released experiences like Microsoft Remote Assist, that let different teams in a company work together to solve maintenance problems. Leap Motion. You may ask why I’m adding Leap Motion here.

It seems cool, but I would like to try it to believe in it: all the times that someone promised me some kind of sensory magic, it never turned out so good as they told me (like with the phantom touch sensation that Leap Motion told me about ). Even with the organizers of the event, I have to speak mostly in Chinese (hence my headache) and use a lot of Baidu Fanyi (the Chinese counterpart of Google Translate). And there are booths of many important companies : Lenovo, Microsoft, HP, Huawei, GoPro, etc… so this event has cool stuff to showcase. Knowledge is within peach.

At worst, use Google Translate. Personally, I have made the first translation with Google Translate, then I asked my assistant Miss S to check and correct the translation. Since when you are in China it is more difficult to buy stuff (language barrier, Google services blocked, etc…), try to buy the most while you are at home.

The World Map in this world therefore isn’t a 2D street map like we have with Google Maps or Open Street Map, nor is it a 3D map with terrain and building volumes. Both Azure Spatial Anchors and Google Cloud Anchors are leveraging existing strengths in mapping towards the AR Cloud. Insane, yet companies are mapping it already.

He has demonstrated even more original (and less scary) ideas for AR interaction while directing UX design at Leap Motion.
