Epic Games releases Unreal Engine 5. Epic Games has finally released the latest iteration of its popular game engine: Unreal Engine 5. This means that while great, Unreal Engine 5 is not disruptive for us VR users and developers, yet. As a Unity developer, I am a bit envious of all of this. Top news of the week.

The drama about Unity’s new pricing models has set the whole game development community on fire, while we had an unexpected leak about the Pico 5 and some updates on the Apple Vision Pro. These are the improvements it applied: Changes in prices will start with the next Unity 2023 LTS, so existing applications will not be affected, at least while the use previous Unity versions Unity Personal will still be free (now up to 200K of revenues) and applications made with it will be subject to no fee at all.

Nano-tech wants to be the Nanite of Unity. Unreal Engine 5 has brought two interesting features with its release: Lumen and Nanite. See Unity running on Quest. Simon, the head of the studio, has managed to make the emulated PC even run Unity, and create a Unity Cube app on it. Learn more. This is mind-blowing!

Even worse, Unity has lost -30% of its stock value. These huge losses have a similar origin to Meta’s ones: Apple’s new privacy policy on the stores has impacted the earnings through Unity ads. Unity is a very important company for many AR/VR creators, so this is not a good piece of news. Lenovo to launch a new MR headset.
