And so startup STRIVR Labs has launched into a new enterprise VR training business, while still remaining in the sports VR training game. It is an end-to-end platform, from content capture to reporting/assessment, and the content is viewed with regular VR headsets like Oculus and Samsung Gear VR.

It’s hard to avoid the hype around virtual reality (VR) headsets like the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift or its mobile counterpart, Samsung Gear VR; much of that excitement is focused on console, mobile, and PC gaming. However, the technology has applications in most industries. The more conventional VR experiences exist too.

Star Wars: Squadron is the game of the moment. The spaceship dogfighting game set in the Star Wars universe has been awaited for long and in the end, it has fulfilled all its promises. This game has no microtransactions , though, and this is a healthy decision for a game from EA (finally!). Great job, EA!

In the meantime, it seems quite tragic that Carmack, the winner of the lifetime achievement award from the peer-based Game Developers Choice Awards in 2010, was caught up in such a legal nightmare. ZeniMax called Carmack’s use of Rage source code — a game that he helped create — a “theft.” An appeal is expected in this cautionary tale.
