HTC has finally revealed the price of the Vive Pro : it will cost $799 just to have the headset (no controller and no base stations, so you must already have a Vive 1 kit) and will be available for pre-orders since April, 5th. But, as Road To VR has stated, maybe HTC should have clarified that in all its marketing material.

But this time, Valve has made it without the collaboration of HTC. The specs list is very similar to the one of the HTC Vive Pro. I tried it in Beijing at HTC offices and I was amazed by this possibility. The Valve Index is the first PC VR headset completely produced by Valve, from the design to the manufacturing stage.

And so here we are again: Oculus vs HTC, America vs China, Hugo Barra vs Alvin Wang Graylin. HTC has also been smart because every time someone says “Focus” during some VR event, he’s doing some hidden advertisement for its product. According to some reviewers, the display may also be the same one made by Samsung.

If these Facebook features proved to be popular, more developers would use them, and finally, Facebook could have more power on the VR development tools , after the failed acquisition of Unity. The report also highlights that one of the regions where VR may grow more in 2019–2023 is Western Europe.

This trend will continue in 2021 : the new LiDAR sensor, which is rumored to be installed in all future iPhones, will for sure be copied also by Android phones (Samsung?) There are vaiours solutions to also export Unity XR projects to the web (Image by Mozilla). and I can expect more realistic filters with depth occlusion to come soon.

HTC has actually released that for the Vive Focus Plus … Well, according to the god John Carmack , it is something about which the company has discussed a lot and has also experimented a lot. Later this year, we’ll expand our Vulkan support on Quest to include Unity and Vulkan validation layers for easier debugging.
