This is a period with many tech announcements: we had Meta telling about its Horizon OS, yesterday OpenAI unveiled the new GPT-4o, and today Google will hopefully unveil its Android XR operating system. He also said that other OEMs are going to launch headsets with AVP-matching hardware for $1500 this year. What a time to be alive!

It is also working on creating its own hardware : a previous report highlighted that it could build its own chips in the future, and this article shows how the company is working also in acquiring hardware parts markers. Of course its goal is to give importance to Steam, not to the hardware. I suggest you give it a read.

This is because Leap Motion has announced its v4 version of the tracking runtime and with it three demos to showcase the new tracking functionalities: Cat Explorer, Particles, and Paint. Cat Explorer is an educational app made to show you all the anatomy of a cat and it obviously employs Leap Motion as the only medium of interaction.

Location-based games are already popular, with over a billion downloads of Pokemon Go in the three years since it launched, and over 20B kilometers walked playing the game. The World Map in this world therefore isn’t a 2D street map like we have with Google Maps or Open Street Map, nor is it a 3D map with terrain and building volumes.

This resembles a lot a feature that Google was researching and that was shown by Road To VR… so it seems that sooner or later all 3 DOF controllers will become 6 DOF ones. it doesn’t work.
