This week in XR hasn’t had any explosive news, but it was interesting nonetheless: in particular we had cool info on AR glasses, with some news from Kura, Lynx, and Samsung. Samsung AR glasses concept has been leaked. Popular Twitter leaker WalkingCat has leaked two trailer videos about two AR glasses by Samsung.

Chinese manufacturers BOE and SeeYA may provide cheaper displays in higher quantities than Sony is doing now, while Samsung may be supplying the DRAM components. The second is that “mistaken model of the strategic motivations”, which seems to aim at the fact that Meta has a clear strategy that is not (only) about data mining this time.

All these data together make me a bit skeptical about the capabilities of this company: developing such kind of a high-quality headset requires a lot of expertise, while the company is very small and features no known expert in the field. Stanford and Samsung create a super-high-resolution display.

Facebook could sell all its devices undercost now, subsidizing the cost of the hardware with software and data collection, so that to compete with brands like Samsung and XiaoMi. The most viral news of the week has for sure been the one about MetaHuman Creator, a new software for Unreal Engine. Sundance festival got 40K visits.

If we look at the data of the three independent reports, we get a clear coherent picture. This new standard evolves the previous H265 compression format for videos, reducing data requirement up to 50% while providing visually the same quality. According to Samsung, it should come in 2028. A very interesting read.
