As a long-time AR enthusiast, and one of the first to have tried Google Glass in Italy, I have to admit that I will consider AR mainstream only when it will be on glasses that we will wear all day , when we’ll live in a completely shared mixed reality world (the AR Cloud). The answer is not so trivial.

The damn coronavirus continues to impact all our lives: the fact that many countries are applying restrictions on flights to and from Italy is, for example, creating various nuisances to my job. Or better, I can imagine who can be the names and they are all the big monoliths: Google, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon , etc… Only companies of this size could afford selling a good headset under cost and at the same time attract enough developers to publish VR games on their own new stores.

Years later, in 2014, my previous classmate Gianni Rosa Gallina called me because he wanted to create a startup about all the fancy things we were discussing in that period, in particular Google Glasses and my obsession about seeing virtual objects on top of the real world. HTC has launched a new headset, we have another confirmation of Apple glasses, we read about the first hands-on on Kura glasses, and many other things have happened! All of this shows how Apple is most probably testing internally its AR glasses and so the launch may be not that far away (probably in 2020).
