The news comes amid a massive wave of layoffs across the tech industry, with Meta Platforms, Microsoft, Google parent Alphabet, Amazon, and many others launching a second round of job cuts. Microsoft also laid off 11,000 workers across its operations, leading to the subsequent shuttering of its AltspaceVR metaverse platform.

As a long-time AR enthusiast, and one of the first to have tried Google Glass in Italy, I have to admit that I will consider AR mainstream only when it will be on glasses that we will wear all day , when we’ll live in a completely shared mixed reality world (the AR Cloud). Didn’t work (Image by Microsoft). Sounded good.

iOS 15 finally brings AR navigation instructions to Apple Maps , in a way similar to the one that Google is already offering. Microsoft is going to release a database of synthetic faces. Microsoft is going to release soon FaceSynthetics, a big database of 100,000 synthetic faces, free to use for academic and research purposes.

Pepperidge Farm remembers when people wearing Google Glasses were called “Glassholes” and kicked out of shops (a nice prize for having spent $1500 on a new device) and Facebook wants to see if in 2020 there could be similar problems (“Ariassholes” sounds good). That will come in the second step of the project.
