This week in XR hasn’t had any explosive news, but it was interesting nonetheless: in particular we had cool info on AR glasses, with some news from Kura, Lynx, and Samsung. Samsung AR glasses concept has been leaked. Popular Twitter leaker WalkingCat has leaked two trailer videos about two AR glasses by Samsung.

Samsung has also teased to be interested in releasing a new AR/VR standalone device. The only exception to this rule seems to be the Samsung Odyssey+, that offers features somewhat comparable to the ones of the Vive Pro, but costs only $500. The Odyssey has anyway the problem of the non-optimal tracking of controllers.

Samsung Technology brand Samsung has been traversing the immersive technology space for some time, with the development of tools designed to take advantage of Samsung smartphones and other computing devices. The device includes two active Bluetooth controllers and access to development platforms such as Unity.

This means that probably we’ll need to wait at least for CES 2021 or 2022 to see again something that will truly amaze us. As for the partnerships, the most intriguing one is the one with my friends at 7Invensun , one of the worldwide leading companies in eye-tracking technologies. We’ll wait.

In the end, I still believe in the old predictions of Unity CEO John Riccitiello: Look at this graph shown by Mr. Riccitiello in 2017: the purple line is the one of the analysts, while the white one is the one forecasted by him. So, personally, I bet on a PSVR 2 in 2021.

The screen is a pentile OLED, featuring 1600×1440 per eye resolution. We are at the same level of Vive Focus or Vive Pro… probably the display is the same made by Samsung. This is the same chip of the Samsung S8 and it is not the latest available for VR: Qualcomm has already released the 845 VR reference design.
