In December 2012 I published my first in-depth article after a demo with a hand-built Oculus VR prototype. A decade later, Oculus VR is gone “ for now ” and the earliest faces to rally developer and enthusiast support for the imminent consumer revival of virtual reality have moved to other startups.

Since the Oculus Kickstarter in 2012, VR has seen a revival on the big screen as it becomes a more affordable and accessible consumer device. It lacks all Oculus Exclusive titles like Beat Saber and Population One, but its store is becoming anyway interesting. He complained about having to obey platforms and their taxes (clearly hinting at Apple), saying that he had a different vision. And Pico doesn’t plan to curate it like Meta, so its ecosystem should be much more open.

The age of high-end, commercially available virtual reality began on March 28 with the launch of the Oculus Rift. The organization found that, by the end of 2016, the Oculus Rift is projected to sell 355,088 units; the HTC Vive will sell 420,108 units; Google Daydream will sell 450,083 units; and the PS VR will sell 2,602,307 units.
