I wrote my own ViFi novel, MetaWars , in 2010 after the Icelandic ash cloud grounded flights across Europe. Anyone who spends their days working from home, on what feels like non-stop Zoom meetings or Microsoft Teams sessions, is living a type of virtual reality. I wonder if that’s the direction of travel for Microsoft.

Microsoft wants to play safe, though, so it is now launching it only in two small countries , so that to identify possible problems only in a small subset of the worldwide population before the big launch. The two lucky countries are New Zealand and Iceland. Microsoft details 3 interesting R&D projects.
