Another leak regarded the release date: an Amazon listing put the availability date of the Quest 3 starting from October, 10th. First of all, Google has to keep the work on the headset very secret also internally , because Samsung is afraid that Google will steal its expertise to build a competing product.

Its strategy is more akin to wanting to be a second Apple than what Google did with Android. Google is building an 'Android XR' platform to power Samsung's upcoming headset. And while Samsung may have a period of exclusivity, that almost certainly ( and reportedly ) won't last forever.

I think that the upcoming release of Quest 3, and the increasing rumors about Samsung are going to improve our situation even more. There will be a new launcher, improved graphics, improved in-game camera, production-ready Unity SDK for the creators, improved full-body VR, and much more. Let’s all hope so. But at the presentation of the latest Samsung Note 10, for the first time after the Note 4, Samsung has dropped support for Gear VR in its latest flagship device. And Samsung is not abandoning XR for sure.

This trend will continue in 2021 : the new LiDAR sensor, which is rumored to be installed in all future iPhones, will for sure be copied also by Android phones (Samsung?) There are vaiours solutions to also export Unity XR projects to the web (Image by Mozilla). and I can expect more realistic filters with depth occlusion to come soon.
