Amazon promises “single-digit latency” XR streaming. Amazon has announced some weeks ago “Wavelength”, a new offering of its AWS services, that should provide “single-digit latency” over 5G networks. Samsung Odyssey+ is now at $230. Devs are doing very interesting things with hands tracking for Quest.

Apple Vision Pro on the other hand has occlusion in two distinct forms. The main form is hand and arm occlusion. There’s clearly a 2D hand and arm segmentation model (separate to the 3D skeletal hand tracking) running for each eye’s camera. Unintentional inputs are also a very real problem with hand tracking.

This trend will continue in 2021 : the new LiDAR sensor, which is rumored to be installed in all future iPhones, will for sure be copied also by Android phones (Samsung?) All will feature tracking cameras for 6dof, hand tracking, speakers, microphone, and an additional camera to shoot photos and videos.

The picture also shows the girl using the device making a micromovement of the hands on her lap, a clear hint to the fact that this device can perform accurate hand tracking like the Vision Pro. Qualcomm has officially said that this is the chipset that the upcoming Samsung headset is going to employ.
