I am a bit sad no one gave an award to The Unity Cube , though… I would have loved to get a “Worst Application Award 2021” from Road To VR…. The result is that many big brands are canceling their presence at CES: Google, Intel, Microsoft, Meta, Lenovo, and many others, have decided not to go , and maybe provide their news virtually.

This can be a fantastic feature for concierge services for hotels, restaurants, or similar structures (it reminds a bit of what Amazon Sumerian tried to offer some months ago, and that my friend Eloi exploited well ). Anyway, it is like if Oculus had partnered with Google here in the Wes t, so I envision that great things could come out from this collaboration; A partnership between HTC and HP. It is like Google here. So, I made a prototype with Unity and the Cosmos XR where I can actually take out a PC from an Amazon page and try it on my desk.

This week has been pretty crazy: It all started with Facebook approving my silly The Unity Cube application (an application with just a cube) on App Lab. The stocks of the headset are becoming empty on its main stores (Oculus website, Lenovo online store, Amazon US, etc…) and Facebook has stated that “it won’t replenish them”.

The World Map in this world therefore isn’t a 2D street map like we have with Google Maps or Open Street Map, nor is it a 3D map with terrain and building volumes. Both Azure Spatial Anchors and Google Cloud Anchors are leveraging existing strengths in mapping towards the AR Cloud. Insane, yet companies are mapping it already.

Google affirms that Cardboard has been a huge success to introduce people into VR, and more than 15 million headsets have been distributed.
