It’s incredible how we will have the first smart contact lens product before 2030… it seems like hardware coming from a sci-fi movie! Then, PSVR Without Parole has reported that Sony has learned from the errors of the PSVR 1, and so it has made the cable of the PSVR 2 detachable. We are still waiting for in-device tools, though.

But as far as I know, nothing disruptive for the industry : Oculus has already shots all its bullets, and HTC for the first time isn’t announcing anything. This week Sony has showcased the new DualShock controller for the PS5, dubbed DualSens. PSVR2 will surely have its dedicated controllers, but since Sony is trying to guarantee retro-compatibility of games (especially gems like AstroBot), this headset should also be able to work with the DualSens controller.

Think about what happened to VR: we had the Oculus devkits, which interested only us developers. So whenever I see market predictions about immersive realities that arrive to 2030, I think they have the same reliability as the horoscope. I nnovation usually doesn’t follow a linear route, but goes through sprints and disruptions.

That said, I’m very bullish about Apple and expect it to be a lot bigger by 2030 than it is today, because of this strategical shift underway. In front of you will be two 8K Sony chips, I hear. But I hear it is years ahead of what Facebook is building in its Oculus Quest standalone VR headsets.
