Unity changes how it handles XR Plugins. That said, let’s have a look at this interesting week in AR and VR.

But in China, they are very famous, and now they are also organizing a big event about XR called FBEC with hosts from all the major VR companies (HTC, Unity, Alibaba, Huawei, etc…). We are organizing the Future Business EcoLink Conference 2022 and the 7th Golden Gyro Award.

I see 2020 as a good year of consolidation, where VR will grow linearly before the expected explosion around 2022. In the end, I still believe in the old predictions of Unity CEO John Riccitiello: Look at this graph shown by Mr. Riccitiello in 2017: the purple line is the one of the analysts, while the white one is the one forecasted by him.

Last year we had nReal showing us that AR can be trendy, and HTC making us dream with the Vive Cosmos. Yes, the biggest companies were not there with a booth (Oculus will probably target the OC6, HTC the VEC, etc…), but it is the first time that I read the XR news from CES and I dont’ remain surprised. Samsung AR glasses.

This trend will continue in 2021 : the new LiDAR sensor, which is rumored to be installed in all future iPhones, will for sure be copied also by Android phones (Samsung?) There are vaiours solutions to also export Unity XR projects to the web (Image by Mozilla). and I can expect more realistic filters with depth occlusion to come soon.

HTC discounts its headsets. HTC has started a good discount on its headsets that will last until the end of the month. Samsung Exynos 2200 introduces ray tracing on mobile. Samsung has just announced its new Exynos 2200 mobile chipset , powered by AMD RDNA 2 architecture. Thanks Marco Giammetti for the tip). Some XR fun.

This has been a pretty interesting week for me, having spoken at XR Safety Week and Stereopsia, and having published two cool articles about creating innovative SteamVR controllers and using Application SpaceWarp in Unity to almost double the framerate of your application. Microsoft and Samsung may be partnering for an AR device.
