In the case of VR, we all remember the competition between HTC and Oculus in 2016, with HTC clearly winning the market until Oculus used Facebook’s money to slash the price of the Rift around 2017. Other companies like Nreal and Microsoft are in a better position, but just because we are in the very early stages of the market.

More or less AR in 2018 has gone as I predicted in 2017. On the contrary, Microsoft has worked a lot on the platform, to make it more appealing to enterprise customers. It has released experiences like Microsoft Remote Assist, that let different teams in a company work together to solve maintenance problems. Magic Leap.

But while we were great on the technical side, we weren’t good at doing business and marketing (I only started my blog in summer 2016 ), so in 2017 we closed the curtain on our crazy adventure. Furthermore, it is not something original to Magic Leap, since I’ve seen Microsoft doing it in VR some years ago.

Inside-out tracking— which does away with external sensors in favor of cameras mounted on the headset itself—would make room-scale tracking the default, while simplifying the setup and usage. Eye-tracking is another feature which is up in the air for Rift S.

In my opinion , the true error is with the Vive 1 , that will get a price that is higher than the one of all the competitors… and that will cost as much as a Samsung Odyssey, notwithstanding its far lower features. But we also know that when in VR, most people just look forward with their eyes. Vive Focus comes to the west.
