This week has been pretty crazy: It all started with Facebook approving my silly The Unity Cube application (an application with just a cube) on App Lab. Image by HTC Vive). HTC is teasing a new headset. HTC is teasing a new piece of hardware again, and this time most probably it will be a VR headset. Not much, honestly.

Varjo XR-4 is on sale for enterprises, but the company has also opened up a waiting list for interested consumers (especially simulator fans, I guess). HTC is working on compatibility with other headsets, but nothing has been announced yet. If all the existing flatscreen Unity games could become VR-compatible, that would be huge.

I’m sure that after April, 20th, the Meta Quest ecosystem will appear even richer than it is now , creating a wider gap with other companies that may think about competing with the Quest, that is Pico, HTC, and even Apple. Unity talked about PlayStation VR 2 at GDC. Unity had a talk about developing for PlayStation VR 2 at GDC 2022.

In a future update, Meta will use the tracking cameras to track the full body of the user and provide a decent estimation of the pose of the torso, the elbows, and the arms, and a simulated pose for the legs. Yes, the Quest 3 will be able to provide some sort of very rough full-body tracking , which is great for social VR experiences.

Otherwise, contact HTC support to have your Vive fixed (good luck with that). In my case, the controllers weren’t detected in any app, not even in Unity when developing for VR. The system will guide you in updating the firmware if any new firmware is available; How to update the firmware on your HTC Vive devices.

Of those 800, all of them support the HTC Vive officially, whereas only 180 support the Oculus Rift. Of those, not all of them are optimized for Touch, but rather may be optimized for the Razer Hydra, or another third-party peripheral. Another example is with Onward , a military simulation shooter.
