The time has finally come: on the last day of 2023, Praydog has released to the world his first version of UEVR, a universal VR mod for all games made with Unreal Engine. It means that you can take whatever game made in Unreal Engine for flatscreen, apply this universal mod, and immediately transform it into a VR game!

Apple finally talks about VR while taking a (very solid) swing at AR, Walmart will use virtual reality to train employees, you can grow better weed with AR + AI, and Q1 VR headset sales…. APPLE ACTUALLY TALKS ABOUT VR. APPLE TAKES A (VERY SOLID) SWING AT AUGMENTED REALITY. However… we’re still waiting for those apple AR glasses.

Sony will give PS4 camera adapters for PS5 for free. Sony has answered this question in the weekend. Stanford and Samsung create a super-high-resolution display. My friend Nicolas Esposito of Enter Reality has released Project Rigel, his solution to provide full-body tracking and motion capture for Unreal Engine.

We were all expecting this since AR and VR are a bit in a transitional moment and the biggest brands (like Facebook and Apple) have their events through which they’ll announce their new devices, but for me, this lack of news was worse than the expected. We had a few interesting news, but nothing truly disruptive.

It was our hope for Google entering the AR race together with Meta and Apple. Let’s see: Google is still working with Qualcomm and Samsung on a mixed-reality headset. Various reports indicated it as the internal codename in Google for a project meant to build augmented reality glasses. Well, it seems that our hope has died.

Microsoft and Samsung may be partnering for an AR device. According to Korean media, Samsung Electronics is working with Microsoft on a new augmented/mixed reality project “involving HoloLens”. Samsung is one of the most famous suppliers of components for electronic devices (e.g. Samsung Odyssey+).
