Digital Trends recently published a report entitled ‘VR is in a tailspin, and the sales numbers prove it’ It seems HTC has taken umbrage with the article’s thesis in its newest blog post however, which pushes back against some of the article’s claims, saying it’s “not the whole story.”

The only company not much affected by it is HTC, that manufacturers its headsets in Taiwan and not in Mainland China. HTC Vive releases Cosmos Elite, two models of Vive Pro Eye and creates some confusion. For sure you remember the recent launch of a full line of Vive Cosmos headsets , all with customized faceplates.

But hey, let me play this game anyway, so here you are my predictions for virtual reality in 2021 based on the trends and the anticipations that we had at the end of 2020! I expect all these trends to continue in 2021, for a year that will see the growth of the technology on all its sides (software and hardware).

It is also a defensive, move that makes it avoid the loss of its partners, as it has happened with Insomniac Studio that has just been acquired by Sony. From these data, it is clearly readable that 2020 won’t be the “year of VR” , but will be a year in which VR will improve and grow, following the trends of 2019 (enterprise first).

I can’t guarantee that these predictions will come out to be true (I always joke about the fact that I miss many of the predictions about Meta/Oculus), but I think they will be worth reading anyway to understand what can be the trends to look for in this new year. GENERAL TRENDS. I think the metaverse will follow a similar trend.

In the meantime, even HTC that was safe until now is having troubles in manufacturing the external tracking faceplate , whose release date will be delayed. Regarding the compatibility of older PS4 titles (including VR ones), Sony has clarified that most of titles will be compatible, but some of them won’t work on Day 1. It seems fun.
