At Facebook Connect this week , Facebook has: Released the powerful Oculus Quest 2 , powered by Snapdragon XR2, and with a 4K display. You can finally buy the Leap Motion v2 accessory.

The reason for such a decision would be that was impossible to create a glass that could be thin enough and that could contain all the desired technology (e.g. Probably not this year, but next one or in 2021… but it will happen. Oculus is working on 2nd gen VR. We don’t know what Oculus will present, but we have some hints.

One of the first accessories for AR/VR I had the opportunity to work on is the Leap Motion hands tracking controller : I made some cool experiments and prototypes with it and the Oculus Rift DK2. They should guarantee better tracking both for the headset and the controllers; The controllers are smaller and seem a mix between the Oculus Touch and the WMR 1 controllers. I don’t see this device stealing the scene from Oculus, since Oculus is cheaper, but I’m quite sure this new headset will be able to grab a good market share.

Also, Leap Motion tracking or the mixed reality cameras of Varjo XR-3 are not part of this model. The first shipping batch will happen at the end of 2021. This is a necessity, otherwise, for that high resolution you would have needed a rendering farm, but it is amazing to see that the technology starts being implemented.
