The cameras snap four pictures of the same spot in the sky over an hour, and then software reveals any telltale movement in those frames. Just twelve hours later it exploded in the sky near Puerto Rico. Some NEOs are ultimately labeled "potentially hazardous asteroids," meaning they come within about five million miles of Earth.
