The final demo at a day-long visit to Meta’s research offices in Washington state was easily the most memorable — true telepresence. He was physically located in Pittsburgh – over 2,500 miles away by road from where I stood in Washington state. It may also be the key to unlock VR’s killer use case.

It’s important in those two scenarios to have complete attention and the feeling you’re totally immersed in an environment, be it filmed on a 360-degree camera or created using CGI. The popular AR headsets like Microsoft Hololens ($3,500) and Magic Leap ($2,300) aren’t feasible for large-scale deployments.
