This is huge because we know that Samsung is able to always deliver good hardware.

Google is also hiring high-profile people for it, like Bernard Kress, principal optical architect on Microsoft’s HoloLens team, and Paul Greco, the previous CTO of Magic Leap. HTC discounts its headsets. HTC has started a good discount on its headsets that will last until the end of the month. Some XR fun.

This trend will continue in 2021 : the new LiDAR sensor, which is rumored to be installed in all future iPhones, will for sure be copied also by Android phones (Samsung?) Magic Leap will meet its fate. Duck Face, Magic Leap One, and me. What about Magic Leap ?

Microsoft and Samsung may be partnering for an AR device. According to Korean media, Samsung Electronics is working with Microsoft on a new augmented/mixed reality project “involving HoloLens”. Samsung is one of the most famous suppliers of components for electronic devices (e.g. Samsung Odyssey+).

It is “easy” to create hype and get preorders and many sales on the first day: Even the Magic Leap One had a very strong first day, and the community was flooded with pictures of people donning the device… but in the end, it was a huge flop. Companies like HTC and Facebook have TOS that allows for the gathering of anonymized data.

Last year we had nReal showing us that AR can be trendy, and HTC making us dream with the Vive Cosmos. Yes, the biggest companies were not there with a booth (Oculus will probably target the OC6, HTC the VEC, etc…), but it is the first time that I read the XR news from CES and I dont’ remain surprised. Samsung AR glasses.
