Microsoft’s play for command of next generation personal computing can be seen today with the announcement of a series of Windows-powered VR headsets starting at $300. The headsets planned from HP, Dell, Lenovo, Asus, and Acer will use what’s known as “inside-out” position tracking.

Acer, NVIDIA, Valve, Ubisoft, Leap Motion and many others joined the ecosystem. For example, head tracking can come from optical trackers or inertial ones. Many game engines – such as Unity, Unreal and SteamVR- immediately support it. Magic Leap is not commercial yet. Others did this work themselves.
