This level of accurate historical detail isn't new for Eggers — for The Witch , production designer Craig Lathrop built the farmhouse using techniques and tools from the 17th century. The way in which the trunks of trees are laid along an earthen bank to make the fortification wall, that's from several sites in Denmark and Sweden.
