One of the first accessories for AR/VR I had the opportunity to work on is the Leap Motion hands tracking controller : I made some cool experiments and prototypes with it and the Oculus Rift DK2. Also, Leap Motion tracking or the mixed reality cameras of Varjo XR-3 are not part of this model. Varjo states that the implementation of foveated rendering is what makes it possible to use this device on consumer-grade hardware like an NVIDIA RTX 3050 with i5 processor. The first shipping batch will happen at the end of 2021.

I think that we’ll have more info at OC7, with maybe a launch in 2021/2022. I guess it will be the final price and the available titles that will define what hardware will win the race. Another great UX post by Leap Motion. Oculus has made its GDC announcements. Amazing demo, have a look at it!

Considering that Quest has sold at least 3M units now, this means more than $300M of losses from the hardware sales for Facebook. Huawei is a very important hardware company and its glasses have a very sleek design, so I think it’s very important to keep an eye on them! Shipping should come as early as August 2021.

HP and Microsoft have a long track in offering enterprise hardware, so this headset may battle HTC on his own land (B2B). In particular, the ones by Panasonic that were so popular at CES 2020 , are going to be released in 2021. All the ones that have been announced are going to be released in the next 12 months.
