Using your nose in VR might sound slightly unnecessary, superfluous even – an optional extra once visuals, audio and haptics have been perfected. A Japanese lab last year came up with a prototype smell machine small enough to hook over an Oculus Rift and sit just below the nose (see video ), leaving the lower half of your face uncovered.
