In his 1984 classic Neuromancer, characters entered a virtual reality world called “the matrix” (inspiration for the 1999 film of the same name by the Wachowskis). Augmented vision is commonplace in futuristic films, from Minority Report to Iron Man. Some recent acquisitions include AltspaceVR (Microsoft), and Escher (Niantic).
