SPIE.AR|VR|MR 2024 is well underway, bringing together the best and brightest in the emerging XR technology landscape to network and discuss the future of XR – as it undergoes a pivotal Q1 period this year.

What sets SPIE?AR|VR|MR 2024, apart from other emerging technology, shows its focus display and waveguide solutions – the hardware and software that powers immersive visualisation on MR headsets, AR smart glasses, and more.

The event sees leading XR firms such as Meta, Google, and Magic Leap actively participating in many of the event’s esteemed keynotes and exhibition spaces. Yesterday, Google and Mojo Vision representatives introduced the event, kicking off the monumental event with an opening keynote.

Moreover, throughout the three-day event, other XR speakers from firms such as Digilens, Sony, General Motors, MicroOLED, Microsoft, and EndeavorXR will present expert insight into the XR and display market.

Zinn Labs Debuts AI-ready Eye-Tracking System at SPIE.AR|VR|MR 2024

There are many vendors at SPIE.AR|VR|MR 2024 that provide insights into their latest XR products. One such firm is Zinn Labs, which is introducing its breakthrough AI-powered eye-tracking framework for AR smart glasses and MR headsets.

The solution is an “event-based” eye-tracking framework that works alongside Prophesee sensors, which more accurately tracks a user’s gaze to improve hands-free AR/MR interactions.

Kevin Boyle, the CEO of Zinn Labs, noted that his firm’s “event-based gaze-tracking reduces bandwidth by two orders of magnitude compared to video-based solutions, allowing it to scale to previously impractical applications and form factors.”

Moreover, Zinn Labs is working with Prophesee to develop a rich tracking interaction foundation for its upcoming DK1 smart glasses development platform.

Luca Verre, the CEO and Co-Founder of Prophesee, also added:

Frame-based acquisition techniques don’t meet the speed, low latency, size and power requirements of AR/MR wearables and headsets that are practical to use and provide a realistic user experience. Our GenX320 was developed specifically with these real-time and processing efficiency needs in mind, delivering the advantages of event-based vision to a wide range of products, such as those that will be enabled by Zinn Labs’ breakthrough AR/MR platform.

The Zinn Labs DK1 Gaze-enabled Eyewear Platform provides a development kit that showcases its wearable AI assistant feature ready for performance evaluation and customer proof-of-concept integration projects.

What do Experts and Attendees Think?

Alongside vendor announcements, experts are on-site and are sharing their experiences. Via the SPIEXR hashtag on social media, anyone can look at the event digitally and learn about some of the firms creating the technology behind industry-leading head-mounted devices.

SPIE.AR|VR|MR 2024 is part of the more comprehensive SPIE conference portfolio, which covers emerging technologies such as photonics, medical imaging, smart buildings, and more – with the XR event showcasing how the organisers have faith in immersive technologies and the sector’s transformative nature.

For example, the event’s “Smart Glasses and AR Headsets Architecture” sees numerous leaders in the space take the stage to speak about the industry from their firm’s perspective. Notably, the CEO of Vuzix, Paul Travers, is joining the impressive lineup to discuss his roadmap toward the mainstream adoption of AR smart glasses, which includes comments on waveguides, prescriptions, and navigating supply chain issues.

The event aims to bring together researchers, engineers, investors, entrepreneurs, customers, and suppliers to encourage hardware development for broad metaverse use cases. Be sure to take an interest in the event before it closes later this week.

Moreover, events like SPIE.AR|VR|MR 2024 enables visitors to learn more about emerging firms establishing products and solutions in the XR space. While some firms are immature today, the same firms may take over the immersive industry tomorrow.

XR events create an incubator space for emerging AR/VR/MR technology and the broader umbrella of related technologies like genAI and digital twins. Events are also great for diverse ranges of end-users to find an XR solution or vendor that best fits them and take a first step towards their enterprise adoption journey.
