This Monday, hand-tracking and haptics hardware manufacturer Ultraleap partnered with BrightSign to distribute its TouchFree solution across XC5 media players to enhance digital signage communications and marketing opportunities.

The solution’s integration enables BrightSign to leverage improved interactivity and engagement during digital enterprise communications to suit clients in sectors such as retail and advertising.

Jeff Hastings, CEO of BrightSign, explained that by leveraging Ultraleap’s TouchFree technology, the firm is enabling a “more immersive shopping environment.”

Hastings also added:

BrightSign’s commitment to fostering innovation is evident through our approach of enabling an ecosystem of partners to deploy cutting-edge technology solutions on our platforms. With TouchFree, customers can interact with digital screens in a brand-new way, delivering captivating retail experiences that demonstrate the capability and versatility of BrightSign’s XC5 platform.

BrightSign’s hardware enables businesses to display high-quality interactive displays for various use cases. With integrated Ultraleap technologies, BrightSign can significantly increase engagement with its solution’s users by boosting interaction across consumer-facing branded signage.

Now, BrightSign users can interact with a display with hand gestures. Moreover, the TouchFree solution enables “effortless control” over digital signage content, such as interaction with menus and other UI elements.

Saurabh Gupta, VP of Out-of-Home and Retail at Ultraleap said the BrightSign collaboration “empowers businesses to create truly immersive and interactive experiences that capture attention, enhance customer engagement, and deliver memorable brand interactions.”

Gupta continued:

We are proud to collaborate with BrightSign and integrate our gesture control technology into their XC5 media players. The integration of Ultraleap’s gesture control technology is available as a software extension on the XC5 media players. The combination of BrightSign’s industry-leading hardware and Ultraleap’s cutting-edge gesture control technology ensures a seamless and efficient integration process for customers wishing to implement the solution.

More on Ultraleap

The firm is developing a range of hand-tracking and haptic technology. Ultraleap’s product portfolio includes hand tracking and haptics devices such as Gemini and Stereo IR 170 that end-users can integrate into an enterprise-grade VR workflow for use cases like training and collaboration.

In an exclusive roundtable with XR Today, Matt Tullis, VP of XR at Ultraleap, noted that the firm is “focused on making our hand tracking easier to integrate for OEMs.” The firm is improving usability by expanding its camera sensors and configurations.

Tullis also added:

Advanced hand tracking also enables social use cases where you want to be able to visualize more than just floating hands. At Ultraleap, we’re able to track the elbow joint, which can easily be extended to simulate full arms by using the location of the headset as a proxy for shoulders. This delivers a more engaging and enjoyable experience for the user rather than just floating hands.

Moreover, Tullis added, there is ” some exciting news in the pipeline – keep an eye out for that soon!”
