Last Thursday, leading hand-tracking firm SpectreXR announced a strategic collaboration with XR headset vendor HTC VIVE via its Linkedin account to drive innovation, immersion, and realistic interaction on the latter’s product portfolio.

The move sees SpectreXR join HTC VIVE’s Developer Partner Program to promote “synergy” between the firms and improve the usability of HTC VIVE devices.

The move sees HTC VIVE adopting SpectreXR’s OcotXR hand-tracking infrastructure into its software development kit (SDK), therefore allowing application content creators to integrate rich interactions into upcoming immersive services.

In a roundtable with XR Today, SpectreXR CEO Ivan Rajković noted that his firm dedicated over 17000 hours of R&D to hand tracking technology, aiming “to provide the most realistic and intuitive hand interactions inside VR and AR environments.”

Moreover, Rajković said that hand-tracking technology can bring value to various industries by providing a “natural and intuitive way of interacting with digital interfaces,” which, according to the CEO, can lead to improved productivity, accuracy, and efficiency outcomes for workers.

The CEO also added:

Tracking solutions have become an essential component of modern digital interfaces, providing a more engaging and intuitive experience for end-users. Enterprise adopters can benefit greatly from incorporating tracking solutions into their products, creating a user-friendly and inclusive experience that enhances the overall value proposition of their offerings.

More on HTC VIVE’s Developer Partner Program

HTC VIVE designed its Developer Partner Program to scale and promote the construction of immersive solutions for enterprise end-users. The program also aims to optimize these enterprise-grade immersive solutions for HTC VIVE devices – ready for various vertical market use cases.

The programme promotes collaboration between HTC VIVE and independent software vendors (ISVs) like SpectreXR to scale AR/VR/MR and its integrated technology stacks for enterprise clients – including technology such as hand tracking, eye tracking, and metaverse services.

Moreover, the HTC VIVE Developer Partner Program is a hub allowing prospective XR end-users to understand what “off-the-shelf” services can drive AR/VR/MR adoption in their chosen workplace. HTC VIVE also offers a rich resource hub for XR adoption and understanding.

HTC VIVE’s Developer Partner Program already contains a rich partner list covering a range of use cases for areas such as AEC, education, and healthcare. Additionally, of its partner list, HTC VIVE is working with firms such as Arthur Technologies, Glue, and Roundtable Learning.

More on OctoXR

SpectreXR delivers its hand-tracking SDK solution via its Octo framework, ready for Unity developers to design custom interactable immersive content.

SpectreXR distributes its SDK as a “Core” -a free version – and “Pro” variant to suit budding content developers and enterprise end-users.

Moreover, the firm’s software offering supports no-code, drag-and-drop developer pipelines meaning that individuals representing a range of skill levels can leverage Octo Core and Pro without barriers.

The Octo SDK framework allows developers to integrate hand-tracking-ready applications on headsets from vendors such as Meta and HTC VIVE. There may also be integration for Apple’s Vision Pro because SpectreXR leverages Unity, the same SDK behind Apple’s interactive XR content.

Octo developers can integrate a range of innovative hand-tracking features into their XR projects, such as:

  • Character controller (Pro only)
  • Inverse kinematics avatar (Pro only)
  • Oculus hand-tracking support
  • Unity input system support
  • Proximity and distance options
  • Interactable objects, pre-made object modifiers
  • Customizable hand poses
  • Grab and hand pose detection
  • UI interaction system

Interested developers can download the Octo Pro framework for €59.88 via Untiy’s Asset Store.
