A new airline is planning to offer flyers Apple Vision Pro headsets for in-flight entertainment.

Beond said the Apple devices will be available for select customers on flights to the Maldives.

The airline is a joint venture between a Middle East investment firm and SIMDI Group – a Maldivian hospitality company.

Beond’s Chairman and CEO, Tero Taskila, said: “The Apple Vision Pro will transform the inflight entertainment experience, and we will be first to offer it to select passengers.

“In addition to our existing and ever-growing library of inflight content such as movies and games, Beond will showcase stunning resort destinations and activities in the Maldives. We are working now with partners in the Maldives to prepare truly amazing footage.

“The inflight experience will build anticipation for passengers before they arrive in the Maldives. Offering the Apple Vision Pro is another step in our vision of delivering a premium travel experience to our customers, from the start to finish of their journey. We’re proud to be the first airline to deploy the technology.”

Beond first took flight last year, with destinations including Riyadh, Zurich, Munich and Milan.

Apple launched the Vision Pro, a mixed reality headset marking the arrival of spatial computing, earlier this month.

This device is equipped with advanced features such as a 3D computing interface and an immersive user experience. It is priced at $3,499 and comes with optional optical inserts and accessories that can enhance its usability. The headset product is powered by a custom M2 Silicon chip and R1 graphics processor, which enables high-resolution micro-OLED lenses, a 2-hour battery life, LiDAR scanner, and TrueDepth camera.

Its realityOS integrates with Apple’s ecosystem. For enterprise customers, Microsoft is offering immersive Office 365 and Copilot software solutions, while Zoom introduces a spatial version of its conferencing tool. Other productivity apps like Adobe and Webex are also onboard. The impact of Vision Pro on XR market remains to be seen, with expectations of reshaping how we work and collaborate.
