This week, 3D modelling and spatial data capture service provider Amrax integrated its Metaroom application onto Autodesk Construction Cloud, ready for international AEC firms.

Autodesk Construction Cloud is a suite of first and third-party XR services that Autodesk built primarily for construction firms. The service also provides a builders network and predictive insights. Now, with Metaroom, the cloud platform gives AEC end users spatial digitisation and planning tools.

Martin Huber, CEO at Amrax, added:

With this integration, we are setting new standards in the digitisation and visualisation of interior spaces. Our advanced features enable not just the creation of 3D models for individual rooms but also for entire floors and buildings. The integration provides a streamlined and efficient workflow, allowing professionals to scan spaces with a mobile device and quickly transition to working with the digital twin in Autodesk Construction Cloud.

According to Amarx, its Metaroom services provide a cost-sustainable alternative to traditional room measurement and design planning methods.

Metaroom allows teams to collaborate over immersive visualisations of real-world spaces by leveraging room scanning features on Apple iPhone Pro or iPad Pro devices that generate a digital twin, allowing workers to access the data via the cloud.

Following the digitisation process, the accompanying Metaroom Studio allows design teams to edit and add additional information to an object for a chosen use case.

Moreover, Metaroom recently debuted support for seamlessly capturing multiple rooms, floors, or entire buildings, generating a digital twin based on a user’s uploaded spatial information.

The service also includes a Point of Interest (POI) tool that scans for extra details on chosen areas and direct embedding for streamlined workflows.

James Cook, director of industry and technology partnerships at Autodesk Construction Solutions, also added:

3D scanning tools help project managers bridge issues or inconsistencies between the digital representation and reality of their jobsites. Embedding Metaroom’s 3D models within Autodesk Construction Cloud helps teams understand the real-life context of the Issues, RFIs, Submittals and more that they track in Autodesk Construction Cloud, helping them make better-informed decisions.

Managers can access RT3D models via Autodesk Build Insights, BIM 360 Project Home dashboards, or the latest Metaroom iOS application.

Will Autodesk Shape XR Design?

Autodesk is working to meet the new demand for immersive services, which can improve ROI on design processes for end-users in many verticals, from aviation to AEC.

Last year, Autodesk entered various deep partnerships to improve its immersive design features – notably for AEC firms.

In early November, Epic Games and Autodesk assisted volumetric video firm Arcturus in raising roughly $11 million – with Cloudtree Ventures leading the funding round – enabling Arcturus to scale its immersive video editing and streaming tools.

At the time of the fundraising, Kamal Mistry, the CEO of Arcturus, noted that the deal’s goal was to give “everyone from multinational brands to independent creators the tools they need to create authentic digital human representations in the metaverse of their choice.”

Misty also added:

We see the translation of true human performance as a fundamental building block of spatial experiences, including XR and the metaverse.

Moreover, the Arcturus funding supports Holosuite on Autodesk and Epic Games services.

The Holosuite Software as a Service (SaaS) volumetric video post-production tool applies across various industries and enables developers to import content captured via volumetric video technology.

Additionally, the Holosuite support allows the platform creators to import avatars captured in 3D with full movement into their immersive environments.

Diana Colella, the SVP at Autodesk Media & Entertainment, added,

We are thrilled to help Arcturus expand the potential of its existing tools. By accelerating innovation we can help users quickly maximize the potential of using animated 3D video in their work, and deliver the compelling content that the media and entertainment industry demands.

The funding came following Autodesk and Epic Games entering a separate strategic collaboration in September of the same year. The deal saw the firms work together to accelerate industrial RT3D solutions with a starting focus on AEC.

The collaboration aims to improve interoperability and optimise integrated third-party services for Autodesk Revit – an application for designing and delivering building and infrastructure projects.

Marc Petit, the Vice President of Epic Games and the Unreal Engine Ecosystem says that Autodesk Revit helps to deliver a seamless RT3D design experience for industry professionals.

Petit also added that Epic Games and Autodesk “share a common goal,” which is the ability to give customers “more time to be innovative.”

Petit said that by “tapping into” Epic Games’ ecosystem of RT3D tools and libraries, workers can spend more time “bringing their designs to life” while spending less time handling complex data and technical workflows.

More on Autodesk

Autodesk is a software company that provides 3D design, engineering, and digital entertainment tools, including market-leading tools like AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor, and Maya.

The firm’s immersive enterprise goals follow in the wake of success across various industries, with Autodesk propelling XR into regulated industries based on its experience.

Autodesk also works to provide far-reaching cloud-based solutions, such as Fusion 360 and Construction Cloud.

With its esteemed lineup of design solutions, Autodesk could have a clear and unrivalled entry point to a section of enterprise clients, with the potential to gain massive rewards.
