He said that Apple is going to “ make VR into something everybody wants before it’s something that everybody can afford ”, like the original Oculus The trademark XROS has been registered by a shell company owned by Apple. Meta has silently ended support for Oculus Home on PC. That’s so sad. They could be able to save many lives.

The Quest 2 is a great gaming machine offered at a ridiculous price, and it has totally crushed the competition. In the case of VR, we all remember the competition between HTC and Oculus in 2016, with HTC clearly winning the market until Oculus used Facebook’s money to slash the price of the Rift around 2017.

In Decentraland we had the first (to my knowledge) protest in the metaverse, with some people protesting during an event organized by Samsung.

These are huge numbers for VR: if you look at the most recent SteamVR survey, you get that Oculus headsets are now at 67% of the whole PCVR market. There is instead a rumored partnership with Samsung , where Samsung would actually build a new XR device and Microsoft offer the platform on top of which the headset may run.

While Oculus is getting all the glory for the Quest, its competitors are not sleeping. Huawei has upgraded its sleek VR glasses and now they support 6DOF movement and 6DOF controllers that are very similar to the Oculus Touch. Notwithstanding all this hate, the Oculus Quest 2 is selling very well. Other relevant news.

Yes, the biggest companies were not there with a booth (Oculus will probably target the OC6, HTC the VEC, etc…), but it is the first time that I read the XR news from CES and I dont’ remain surprised.
