I had the opportunity to participate in the Curse of the Lost Pearl — an Indiana Jones-inspired adventure where you embark on a mission to find an ancient pearl deep in the catacombs of what looked like either a Mayan or Aztec pyramid. Divr Labs decided to forgo props or guns, opting instead for hand tracking.

It features 11,000 movies and 4600 TV shows to choose from , including new blockbusters like Indiana Jones 5 or Guardians of the Galaxy 3. It features nice graphics, an interesting story, and a strong use of hand tracking through which you can cast spells. There are also 120 3D movies, which look very good in VR.

But, instead of holding a plastic peripheral in your hand, the Quest version of the game relies entirely on hand-tracking. On the technical side, Dennys Kuhnert (the developer behind Hand Physics lab), compared on video the performance of hand tracking on Vision Pro and Quest 3, and showed how at this moment, the Quest 3 is much better at that task. Apple has just started, so still has a long road to go with this task.

The acquirer could be Indiana company Zimmer Biomet, which could offer a $100M investment in the startup. Furthermore, it has the advantage that it can work with Quest’s hand tracking. In the search of money, it seems that Rony Abovitz may have found someone in the healthcare sector that may become a new investor.

There are no controllers, but Ultraleap hands tracking (you can use it with FinchShift controllers, though). $500 for this device is a steal. Maybe in the future, if the Quest controllers tracking improves, this can open the market to shoes for VR, where you can stick your controllers in to play soccer on your Quest, who knows.
