I think that Gartner was not referring to the consumer market, where VR is still unripe (even if devices like the Oculus Quest and the Vive Focus Plus are helping it in becoming more widespread), but at the B2B one, where VR is already helping companies to spare money (e.g. thanks to a better training).

The local government is trying to push it to make it become a very big hub for the VR industry , and that’s why it is organizing such a big event. Even with the organizers of the event, I have to speak mostly in Chinese (hence my headache) and use a lot of Baidu Fanyi (the Chinese counterpart of Google Translate).

As a long-time AR enthusiast, and one of the first to have tried Google Glass in Italy, I have to admit that I will consider AR mainstream only when it will be on glasses that we will wear all day , when we’ll live in a completely shared mixed reality world (the AR Cloud). Or is it just a talk about glasses?

Bytedance has huge money, has behind it a powerful and rich government, can sell its headsets in China, and so it has all the means it needs to compete with Meta. In total, 52.5% of the earnings will go to Meta.

Theo and I then showcased the whole process at Dominika’s ‘My Queendom’ launch event, letting people see the build in Oculus Rift, Oculus Go and via the smartphone app.
