For the last month I’ve been working with Google to test Blocks, a new VR creation tool that enables anyone to 3D model low polygon objects without training. Like Tilt Brush, objects made with Blocks may seem simplistic at first, but the apps professional potential becomes glaringly obvious once it’s objects are rendered in software like Unity. To explain, I created this.

San Diego’s Comic-Con always sees a massive fanfare for all things science fiction, so there’s no better place for Alcon Entertainment and Warner Bros Pictures to debut the VR experience for their upcoming film Blade Runner 2049 , Riddley Scott’s sequel to the iconic Blade Runner (1982). I first heard of Vrotica’s integrated headset when checking out the XBiz VR Shootout press release from June, I had a few friends from VR Vixen competing in there and was happy to see them get exposure. The Vrotica headset was given some good reviews by XBiz but hey its a porn site what do they know about VR anyway (probably a lot more than people give them credit for).

2017 has pushed the VR industry forward in countless ways, including the recognition of audio as an absolutely critical element in VR experiences. Some big-time VR pieces like the Gorillaz’ Saturnz Barz (Spirit House) 360 video or Lytro’s Hallelujah experience have focused on experimenting with auditory experiences. Varjo Technologies , a Helsinki-based startup now out of stealth, recently demonstrated what it calls the world’s first human eye-resolution headmounted display. AR is helping people find free beer because the world is magical. Augmented reality has yielded some pretty unique use-case scenarios over the past couple years. We’ve seen everything from AR apps capable of translating written languages in real-time projects actually capable of changing the taste of your food. I mean half of the world was out chasing virtual Pokemon in their local parks for months for goodness’ sake!

Behind closed doors at E3 2017 journalists were given a glimpse of Cyanide Studio ‘s Call of Cthulhu. The game embraces its Lovecraftian roots fully, giving players an opportunity to explore a mystery that could end with them going absolutely mad.
