Today at CES Sony revealed a new standalone MR headset equipped with “4K” OLED displays. The headset is yet-unnamed, but the company says it’s aimed at creatives building 3D content and will launch this year. Sony’s unnamed standalone MR headset is based on Qualcomm’s XR2+ Gen 2 processor and is said to include 1.3-inch “4K” OLED microdisplays.

Apple Vision Pro will launch in the US on February 2, and preorders will open next Friday. The headset will be exclusively available from Apple's US website and physical US Apple Stores. Preorders open at exactly 5am PT on January 19, next Friday. Apple previously said Vision Pro will come to other countries "later" in 2024, but hasn't yet confirmed which countries this will include.

The Wi-Fi Alliance announced today that Wi-Fi 7 Certified products are ready to hit the market. The latest version of the Wi-Fi standard promises the possibility of “near-zero” latency for real-time applications like wireless VR streaming. The Wi-Fi Alliance (the organization that maintains and develops the Wi-Fi standard) announced today that applicable products can officially be “Wi-Fi 7 Certified” and be sold as such.

While it's been touted for many months that AMD will release APUs for desktops based on Zen 4, rumors and wishes have finally come to fruition during AMD's presentation at CES 2024 with the announcement of the Rzen 8000G family. The latest line-up of APUs with Zen 4 cores and upgraded Radeon integrated graphics consists of four new SKUs, with the Ryzen 7 8700G leading the charge with 8 CPU cores and AMD's RDNA3-based Radeon 780M graphics.

Apple has announced an earlier-than-expected Vision Pro release date, right at the start of CES. As we talked about in our 2023 retrospective, Apple Vision Pro was certainly the most talked about story of the year. And now we’ve learned that Apple is sticking true to its word of the headsets release in “early 2024.” Apple today announced the Vision Pro release date will be February 2nd, and affirmed the eye-popping price of $3,500.

One of AMD's most innovative desktop processor designs in recent years has to be the X3D series, with their 3D V-Cache packaging technology. Since AMD launched their Zen 3-based RYzen 7 5800X3D back in April of 2022, the sky has been the limit for AMD's L3 cache-stacked chips, which have had significant benefits in gaming, especially in titles that can leverage larger amounts of L3 cache.

Alongside the release date announcement of Vision Pro, Apple revealed a new headstrap that will ship with Vision Pro, alongside the originally revealed one. Apple today revealed a new headstrap for Vision Pro which it’s calling the ‘Dual Loop’ Compared to the wide and cozy-looking headstrap that was originally shown with the headset, the Dual Loop looks more like a traditional VR headset strap, including a top strap.

We typically see the flagship K-series chips first whenever Intel launches a new family of desktop processors. These show the maximum potential for improvement in generational performance, such as IPC and core clock speeds, and show off the latest family to the best possible effect. Usually, a few months later, Intel launches their non-K-series SKUs, which have lower TDPs, with minor drops in core clock speeds, but offer the same level of core configurations for a usually lower price.

Sony is Qualcomm's 5th partner building a headset based on the XR2+ Gen 2 chipset. There's no mention of gaming, PlayStation 5 or the PlayStation VR2 brand in connection with the upcoming device, which is slated to release in 2024. The new device features 4K OLED microdisplays and is on the way from Sony Corporation rather than Sony Interactive Entertainment.

During CES 2024, Intel unveiled their latest 14th Generation Core HX series processors for mobile. Consisting of five new SKUs, the Intel 14th Gen Core HX family is a refreshed variant of the previous 13th Gen Core HX series, much akin to the desktop processors such as the Core i9-14900K to the Core i9-13900K; Raptor Lake is again refreshed, this time for mobile.

Kicking things off for the GPU space at this year’s CES, AMD is at the show to announce that they’re bringing an additional Radeon RX 7000 series card to their lineup: the Radeon RX 7600XT. Intended as a premium version of their existing 1080p-focused RX 7600, the RX 7600 XT bumps things up with roughly 10% higher clockspeeds, as well as a doubling the total amount of VRAM to 16GB of GDDR6.

Apple revealed an alternative head strap for Vision Pro that will be included in the box. When Vision Pro was announced at WWDC back in June the only strap seen was the one Apple calls the Solo Knit Band, except for one marketing shot where a side-to-side top strap was also present alongside it. Alongside announcing the preorder and launch dates for Vision Pro today, Apple revealed that the headset will come with two straps: the Solo Knit Band and another called the Dual Loop Band.
